Compliance countdown: one month remaining
On 27 September 2026, Belgiumโs law of 22 July 2026 implementing the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (EU) 2024/825 will enter into force.
The new rules aim to strengthen consumer protection against misleading environmental claims and to provide greater transparency around product sustainability.
Among the key changes:
- New definitions relating to environmental claims, sustainability labels and durability
- Stricter rules on environmental and sustainability claims, with new practices added to the โblack listโ of automatically prohibited unfair commercial practices
- New restriction on generic โgreenโ claims and greenwashing practices
- New transparency obligations concerning the 2-year legal guarantee, sustainability commercial guarantee, software updates and repairability
